How to care for chrysanthemums in winter? Winter care methods and precautions

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
This flower generally blooms in autumn, and winter care is still a challenge. If you are in the south and growing them outdoors, you can cut the stems 15 cm above the ground after the flowers fade, then cover them with soil and fallen leaves. In the north, however, you need to move them indoors. The temperature does not need to be too high, and do not water too much either; once the weather warms up, increase the watering and you can move them outside. In addition, in late autumn, you can also use new shoots to propagate it from cuttings.

1. The South

Because winter temperatures in the south are not very low, we can still grow them outdoors. After the flowers drop, cut the stems 15 cm above the ground, then water them, and cover them with fallen leaves and soil, leaving a section of the stem exposed, and in this way they can survive the winter safely.

2. The North

Because temperatures in this region are relatively low, leaving them outdoors may well cause them to die. So we need to move them indoors. After moving them indoors, we need to give them certain care measures.

3. Overwintering indoors

No matter where you are, if you want to move them indoors, you need to follow the points below.

1. The temperature must not be too high; keeping it above zero is enough. Control the amount of water well, and only water after the potting soil has dried out. Do not give it too much water at one time; wait until the weather gradually warms up before slowly increasing the amount of water.

2. At the end of autumn, just as winter begins, we can use the first generation of new shoots that have just grown from its roots as cutting material. First dig out the rhizomes with shoots from the soil, then plant them in a new pot, and afterward move it into the room.

3. The temperature in the room must not be too high, and the amount of water we give it must not be too much; keeping the soil moist is enough. Generally, by March or April of the following year, it can be moved outdoors. At this point a new plant has grown perfectly, and you can care for it as normal.
