Chrysanthemum blooming period too short? Learn how to extend the blooming period

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
It is a short-day plant, so you can adjust its light exposure to extend the flowering time. As for temperature, by keeping the temperature at around 0 to 5 degrees, its flowering time will be extended by one month compared to before. As for pinching, this method can also be used to extend it; generally, pinching extends it by about ten days.

I. Sunlight

Generally, what we refer to is the autumn chrysanthemum, whose blooming period is between October and December, and it needs short daylight. If we provide it with relatively short daylight, its flowering time will come earlier. Therefore, cover it so it does not have constant access to sunlight, and let it receive only eight hours of light each day. Continue this for more than two months and it will bloom.

The shading time is in the morning and evening. Using black cloth or black plastic bags for shading is feasible, but note that the upper part must be black and must not let light through, while the lower part does not need to be so strictly controlled. When shading, you need to lower the temperature for it, then place it in a cool area, and pay attention to ventilation.

II. Temperature

Influencing its flowering through temperature is also a method, because temperature has a relatively large impact on its growth. So you can completely rely on it to extend the blooming period. We know that its suitable temperature is between 18 and 21, while flower bud differentiation occurs at around 15 degrees. After we wait for the flower buds to grow out and the color to show, we can control its temperature between 0 and 5 degrees, so the blooming period can be extended by about one month.

III. Pinching

Pinching is another method. This is mainly to keep its branches from growing blindly, and it is good for branching, so flowering will be more vigorous. If we pinch in late August or early September, it can bloom two months later, and if we pinch earlier, the flowering time will also be earlier. Generally, for the same variety that has undergone pinching, the blooming period will be extended by about ten days.
