A balcony costs 20,000 yuan per sq m, so leaving it empty and unplanted is a real waste

Houses are so expensive, and a balcony bought at tens of thousands of yuan per sq m is such a pity to leave empty. Better to grow some vegetables you love to eat. Homegrown vegetables are not only fresh and reassuring to eat, but a lush green patch also beautifies the balcony. First, let's see what vegetables Huahua has planted.

Cherry radish, crisp and tender

Spring is a great time to grow cherry radishes on the balcony. They are crisp and tender to eat, nutritious, and look just like cherries, bright red. Plant them now and in 20-30 days you can harvest a bunch of cherry radishes.

1. Buy seeds

Huahua bought the seeds online, very cheap, 1 yuan with free shipping.

2. Scatter the seeds into the soil

Put a mix of garden soil and leaf mold into the flower pot. You can mix in some decomposed chicken manure. Use a wooden stick to draw shallow rows about 1 cm deep in the soil, scatter the seeds in, cover with soil, and finally water thoroughly once.

3. Cover with plastic film

The suitable temperature for cherry radish seeds to sprout is around 15°C. You can cover the pot surface with transparent plastic film to keep it warm. Keep the pot soil moist during germination.

4. Sprouts in 2-3 days

Cherry radishes sprout very quickly, usually in 2-3 days. After sprouting, move them to a sunny spot so the seedlings can photosynthesize and grow faster.

5. Thin seedlings after 7 days

After 7 days, the seedlings will grow 4-5 leaves. To give cherry radishes enough growing space, pull out the extra seedlings and plant them in other pots, keeping 5 cm between each remaining seedling.

6. Plenty of water

During the seedling growth period, water promptly whenever the soil dries out, to prevent the cherry radishes from growing crooked or turning hard in texture.

7. Apply liquid fertilizer every 10 days

After the seedlings grow 2-3 leaves, apply decomposed cake fertilizer or fruit peel fertilizer liquid every 10 days. Be careful not to pour it on the leaves. The roots of the seedlings will soon bulge and poke out of the soil, and that is the little radish.

8. Harvest after 20-30 days

From planting to maturity, cherry radishes generally need only 20-30 days. You can dig them out with a small shovel, rinse with water, and eat them right away, very refreshing! Don't harvest too late, or the little radishes will crack if they stay in the soil too long.

Lettuce, full of vitamins

Huahua loves lettuce. Every time Huahua eats fresh lettuce grown with her own hands, she feels so happy. Growing lettuce is especially easy, it grows big in 2 weeks, and Huahua often shares lettuce with neighbors!

1. Scatter the seeds into the soil

Choose a flower pot with drainage holes in the bottom, then fill it with loose, fertile soil. Scatter the lettuce seeds into the soil, sprinkle a thin layer of soil on top, and water thoroughly.

2. Sprouts in 2 days

Lettuce seeds sprout super fast, seedlings appear in 2 days. Put them in a place with plenty of light and good ventilation, and keep the soil moist.

3. Thin seedlings

When the seedlings grow new leaves, you can thin them, keeping 10-20 cm between each seedling. Too dense will affect growth.

4. Shade appropriately

If the temperature is very high and the sun is harsh at noon, you can shade the lettuce, or move it to a semi-shady place, to prevent it from wilting. Lettuce is not very heat-tolerant.

5. Pick leaves after 2 weeks

When the lettuce leaves grow to 10 cm tall, you can pick the outer leaves to eat. They can be served as a cold dish or added to noodles, and they taste very fresh and delicious either way.

Chives, endless harvests

Huahua loves scrambled eggs with chives, and it seems she can never get enough in this lifetime. Spring chives especially are not only very fresh and delicious, but eating them also helps with beauty and skin care. Cook some chive seafood soup, and after drinking it your complexion looks rosy!

1. Buy chive seeds

Garden friends can buy chive seeds online or at a seed shop.

2. Germinate

First soak the chive seeds in 40°C warm water. Take them out after 12 hours, wrap them in wet toilet paper, put them in a sealed bag, and place them on a heat-dissipating router or TV set-top box to germinate. They usually sprout after 5 days.

3. Plant into the soil

Put decomposed chicken manure or cake fertilizer at the bottom of the flower pot, then add soil, and plant the sprouted chive seeds. Don't plant too deep, just cover with 1 cm of soil. Water thoroughly and place in a sunny, ventilated spot.

4. Chives grow after 7-14 days

After about 7-14 days, chive seedlings will grow, tender and green.

5. Transplant into pots in clumps of 10 chives

When the chives grow to 10 cm and have 8 leaves, you can pull them out with the soil, then plant every 10 chives as one clump into the soil, and cut the leaves back by 5 cm.

6. Chives grow vigorously, endless harvests

During the chive growth period, keep them in a sunny, well-ventilated place, water promptly when the soil dries, and mix a little eggshell powder or bone meal into the soil every month, so the chives grow glossy green, plump and tender!
