When growing flowers at home, the thing people fear most is pests, especially some small flying insects; when you disturb the leaves, they go whoosh and fly around, so annoying. So what exactly are these small white flying insects? How should they be treated? The most common small white flying insects are whiteflies, and these are a worldwide pest, occurring in many regions of our country

Whiteflies are relatively difficult to eliminate for us. They are generally on the backs of potted plant leaves; when you move the potted plant, they go whoosh and fly around wildly, very annoying, and they also suck the sap from plant leaves, causing poor growth of potted plants. So how should we usually eliminate whiteflies?

1. Remove leaves

If there are not many whiteflies, you can directly remove the leaves with pests, which also removes and eliminates the eggs on the backs. But this does not remove the root cause; the whiteflies that can fly will occupy your leaves again after a while

2. Spray pesticide

Whiteflies are not resistant to pesticides and can be eliminated by spraying. Just go to a pesticide store and buy a bottle of pesticide for killing whiteflies. As long as the instructions contain the words whiteflies, the pesticide can kill whiteflies. Generally, one spray can eliminate the adult whiteflies

But whitefly eggs will continue to hatch on the backs of the leaves and will break out again, so it is best to remove the leaves and then combine that with spraying pesticide; only in this way can whiteflies be thoroughly eliminated

3. Whiteflies are very afraid of freezing and die as soon as they freeze, so whiteflies are generally not seen in the Northeast region of our country. If the flowers and plants at home are relatively cold-tolerant, you can put them outdoors to freeze when the temperature is low, and the whiteflies will be frozen to death. This method is generally not recommended. Even for a plant that is very cold-tolerant, suddenly moving it from a warm place to a freezing place means that even if it does not die, it will suffer badly.

4. Some flower friends have also introduced using laundry detergent water to kill whiteflies. Although it is a bit greener than using pesticide, I personally do not recommend it. On one hand, it may not kill them thoroughly and they may come back. On the other hand, the concentration is hard to control, and too high a concentration harms the leaves of flowers and plants. It is best to use pesticide, which has precise ratio instructions. You can also directly buy a spray, which is simpler; after spraying, just ventilate.
