How to grow Sansevieria (snake plant) in water? Growing methods and precautions

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
When growing this plant in water, pay attention to these points. First, we should choose the container according to its size. Second, we need to treat its roots; generally speaking, this means washing the roots and trimming the roots. Finally, pay attention to the amount of water added; just leave one third of the roots exposed. In addition, we should normally make sure it gets enough light and water, and regularly clean and change the water.

Container

We should choose the container according to size; we can choose a homemade one or a purchased one. The best choice is one that makes it elegant and beautiful, and it is even better if it can complement the indoor environment.

Washing the roots

1. We can water it two or three days in advance to make its soil loose and soft, so it will be easier to take out.

2. Dig it out, then shake it gently, and then pat it lightly until all the soil on it has fallen off and all its roots are exposed.

3. Then we put it in clean water for about fifteen to twenty minutes, wash it gently with our hands, then rinse it several times while changing the water, until there is completely no soil at its base.

4. Some roots are old roots and are more complicated; a lot of soil hides inside them, so we should use a bamboo skewer, a wooden stick, or similar to dig the soil out. Not even a little soil can remain; this is the key point of water cultivation, so we must not overlook this.

Trimming the roots

If it has been growing for a long time, then its roots will be more developed. Generally speaking, we should properly prune away its old roots and diseased roots, and the yellow leaves and old leaves also need to be cut off.

After we finish pruning, we should wash it again with clean water, so that the remaining root hairs are thoroughly cleaned off and the container will not be contaminated because of this.

Water

The amount of water also needs attention. Generally speaking, we can just add water directly, but there should not be too much water; just leave one third of the roots exposed.

Temperature

The temperature it likes is in the range of 5 degrees and 30 degrees, so we should keep it in this environment for it to be relatively robust.

Light

We must not let it be in direct sunlight; just give it a certain amount of scattered light.

Changing the water

In spring and autumn, change it every five to ten days; in summer, change it every five days; in winter, change it every ten to fifteen days. When changing the water, nutrient solution can be added.

Cleaning

Every time we change the water, we should clean the container and the roots.
