How to care for carnations during the flowering period? Detailed introduction to care methods

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
During the flowering period, we need to provide it with growing conditions of 14-21°C, highly hydrophobic flower soil and sufficient water. During this time, we can increase the application of P and K fertilizers, reduce the application of N fertilizer and promptly cut off diseased and weak flower branches.

1. Flowering period

First, you need to understand its flowering period so that you can prepare in time to welcome it blooming. The flowering period of carnations is generally from April to September. For potted carnations, it takes about two to three months from blooming to fully withering. If there is too great a difference in lighting conditions, the flowering period will also change.

2. Care methods

(1) Temperature: It likes sufficient sunlight and growing conditions with good ventilation. The most suitable temperature for its growth is in the range of 14 to 21°C. If the room temperature is higher than 27°C or lower than 14°C, it will cause slow growth, etc.

(2) Soil: It is advisable to choose soil with good fertilizer retention and hydrophobicity. If it contains a large amount of humus, it will promote its growth. You can mix coarse organic matter accounting for 30% to 40% of the volume into the soil, or you can use peat to grow it, but you need to mix some perlite into it.

(3) Fertilizer: Generally, the soil used to plant it needs to have base fertilizer added appropriately. If there is no base fertilizer, the amount of fertilizer should be appropriately increased during normal care. The fertilizers used are mostly phosphorus fertilizer and potassium fertilizer, and nitrogen fertilizer should be applied as little as possible. The best frequency is to fertilize once every one to ten days. Be careful not to sprinkle fertilizer on the leaves when fertilizing; simply bury the fertilizer into the soil at the plant's roots.

(4) Watering: It needs to be watered into the flowerpot every day. It is best to place a container slightly larger than the flowerpot under it to hold the excess water after watering. When it is blooming, you can give it a little more water as appropriate.

(5) Branch thinning: If there are too many flower branches and the stems remain in a state of high humidity and no sunlight for a long time, the plant is very prone to disease. Therefore, it is necessary to appropriately thin the flower branches and remove the flower branches with yellowing leaves and weak stems to prevent the plant from getting sick.
