Flowers & Gardening 0 views
Many gardening enthusiasts are not quite sure how to pollinate yew. Actually, it is not difficult. First, we need to collect male flowers and screen them to obtain pollen, then choose around 9 a.m. or 3 p.m., soak it in clean water, and add a little borax and white sugar. Then put it into a sprayer for spray pollination, or put it into gauze for wind pollination.

1. Collection of Male Flower Pollen

When the male flower buds of the yew first begin to bloom for the first time, after two days, its flowers will basically all be in full bloom. At this time, it is the best time to collect male flowers. First, spread its male flowers on white glossy paper, paying attention to even thickness when spreading. After spreading, find another sheet of white glossy paper to cover them, remember the glossy side should face up, and then you can place it under the sun. Remember to turn the male flowers once every 2 hours. After 1 day, you can see the powder. At this point, find a fine-mesh sieve and gently screen out the debris inside.

2. Pollination Time

When pollinating female plants, choose the appropriate time. Usually around 9 a.m. or 3 p.m. 2-3 days after the male plants bloom, gently touch the stigma of the male flower with your fingertip. If a ribbon-like band of moisture appears on it, then pollination can be carried out, and the pollination success rate will also be very high.

3. Pollen Treatment

Find clean water and put the pollen into it, then stir it evenly. After that, add a little borax and white sugar. The purpose is to make the pollen more active, so as to increase the fertilization rate.

4. Pollination Methods

Put the pollen into a sprayer, then use the sprayer for spray pollination; or you can also put a small amount of pollen into a gauze bag, poke some small holes in the gauze bag, then tie it to a 3 m long bamboo pole and use natural wind for pollination; or wind pollination can also be used.

5. Precautions

During the pollination process, some problems may occur, such as the activity level of the stigma and pollen, the activity level of the stigma, and surrounding conditions. No matter which one it is, if the activity is too low or the environment is too poor, the fertilization success rate will be greatly reduced; while if the activity is high or the environment is suitable, the fertilization success rate will be greatly improved.
