What to Do When Rose Leaves Curl? Cause Analysis and Solutions
I. Infected with powdery mildew
(1) Symptoms: If its old leaves curl and the new leaves also curl, then it is definitely infected with this powdery mildew. This not only threatens the leaves but also affects the growth of the flowers, so measures must be taken immediately.
(2) Solution: In daily care, the diseased branches and leaves should be removed, then place it in a windy area and apply more fertilizer containing phosphorus and potassium to make it more resistant. If the condition is very severe, a chemical treatment is needed. If it has not sprouted, lime sulfur mixture can be used to kill the pathogen.
II. Infected with pests and diseases
(1) Symptoms: If the new leaves, besides curling, also have tiny insects on them, then it may have aphids or red spider mites. These two pests will eat all its leaves and seriously affect its growth.
(2) Solution: The branches and leaves with insects need to be completely removed, and then some imidacloprid for pest control should be sprayed on it to completely kill the insects. In addition, besides removing the insects on the leaves, the pesticide should also be allowed to seep into the soil to kill the insect eggs in the soil. Alternatively, replace the soil, wash the roots, and repot it in a new pot.
III. Suffering from waterlogging
(1) Symptoms: If there is too much water, waterlogging will form. Especially when the soil has poor drainage, the roots will rot, and the leaves will not get enough nutrients, so they will curl and fall off.
(2) Solution: If the waterlogging is relatively severe, the plant should be dug out and repotted in a new pot. If the condition is relatively mild, some soil can be piled up around its base so that adventitious roots can grow from its root crown.
IV. Insufficient fertilizer
(1) Symptoms: If its leaves turn yellow and curl, and the flowers it produces are very small and the branches are very thin, then it lacks fertilizer.
(2) Solution: Fertilizer should be applied according to the nutrients it lacks. If the severe deficiency has damaged the roots, apply fertilizer to its leaves, preferably in the evening, sprinkling it on the backs of the leaves so it can recover as quickly as possible. If it is very weak, apply it several more times with a smaller dose to prevent fertilizer burn.
