When growing flowers at home, the most feared thing is pests, especially some small flying insects. When you touch the leaves, they flutter away everywhere, so annoying. So what exactly are these small white flying insects? How should they be treated? The most common small white flying insect is the whitefly, which is a worldwide pest and occurs in many regions of our country

Whiteflies are relatively difficult to eliminate for us. They generally stay on the underside of potted plant leaves, and when the pot is moved they flutter around everywhere, very annoying. They also suck the sap from plant leaves, causing poor growth of potted plants. So how should we normally eliminate whiteflies?

1. Remove leaves

If there are not many whiteflies, you can directly remove the infested leaves, which also removes and eliminates the eggs on the underside. But this does not remove the root cause, and the flying whiteflies will occupy your leaves again after a while

2. Spray pesticide

Whiteflies are not resistant to pesticides and can be eliminated by spraying. Just go to a pesticide shop and buy a bottle of pesticide for killing whiteflies. As long as the instructions contain the word whitefly, the pesticide can kill whiteflies. Generally one spray can eliminate the adult whiteflies

But the eggs of whiteflies will continue to hatch on the underside of the leaves and will break out again, so it is best to remove the leaves and then combine that with spraying, so that whiteflies can be completely eliminated

3. Whiteflies are very afraid of cold and die when frozen, so whiteflies are generally not seen in the Northeast region of our country. If the flowers and plants at home are relatively cold-tolerant, you can put them outdoors to freeze when the temperature is low, and the whiteflies will be frozen to death. This method is generally not recommended. Even for the most cold-tolerant plants, suddenly moving them from a warm place to a cold place will cause serious damage even if they do not die.

4. Some flower growers also suggest using laundry detergent water to kill whiteflies. Although it is a bit greener than using pesticide, I personally do not recommend it. On one hand, it may not kill them completely and they may come back. On the other hand, the concentration is hard to control, and too high a concentration can damage the leaves of flowers and plants. It is best to use pesticide, which has precise mixing instructions. You can also directly buy a spray, which is simpler; just ventilate after spraying.
