The moment the baby comes crying into the world, new mothers can finally feel their mission is complete, but wanting to see the baby and bond right away is almost impossible, because the baby is immediately taken away. Although the baby is soon brought back, what exactly happens to the baby during those mysterious ten minutes? Do mothers want to know? Let's take a look together!

1. Cutting the umbilical cord

A newborn baby's umbilical cord is still connected to the mother, so the first thing the doctor does is cut the umbilical cord. After cutting, the nurse will carefully bandage the stump of the umbilical cord for the baby. Tying off the umbilical cord marks the end of the placenta-umbilical cord circulation.

2. Crying

"Coming into this world accompanied by crying" is probably how everyone makes their entrance. The baby's first cry not only announces to the world "I'm here," but also marks the establishment of the baby's respiratory function. So doctors will make the baby cry by tapping the soles of the baby's feet.

3. Handling the newborn

When a baby is just born, its body carries blood and vernix caseosa from the mother's birth canal, and some inhaled amniotic fluid and vernix caseosa are also present in the mouth, nose, and throat. After the baby is born, the nurse will clean these up. After this is done, the baby is weighed and examined for any congenital abnormalities.

Finally, the nurse will give the baby a bath with paraffin oil and dress the baby in an adorable little outfit, and then the baby is sent back to the mother's side.
