Plants are like people who need to dress up; the branches are their hairstyle. If you do not prune them properly, how can they grow more beautiful? Only proper pruning can make more flowers sprout and the growth become more luxuriant!

1. Pruning methods

First, when pruning branches and leaves, follow the principle of top before bottom and weak before strong. The pruning cut should form a 45-degree angle with the stem. When pruning roots, cut off old roots, diseased roots, rotten roots and reversely growing roots.

2. Cut off unhealthy branches

The most basic pruning method for potted plants is shortening, the same principle as cutting hair. Cut off the unhealthy part and leave the remaining part of the branch to continue growing. This practice can make the plant grow new branches, promote robust growth, and also speed up the plant's growth rate.

3. Cut off overly dense branches

When flowering plants grow too vigorously or their branches are too dense, they also need pruning. It is the same principle as often seeing gardeners pruning branches by the roadside: if they are too dense, they consume too many nutrients, and after the flowers fade the plant will not be able to recover, making it difficult to bloom again. Therefore, you must be ruthless and remove some, so that the flowers and plants can bloom year after year!

4. Cut off overly long branches

If a plant grows too tall to be maintained as an indoor potted plant, it needs to be top-pruned, that is, before the plant's growing season, cut off the entire upper half of its branches to stop it from continuing to grow taller and encourage it to spread sideways. When pruning, the length to cut depends specifically on the height of the plant. This method is generally suitable for tall potted plants.

5. Root pruning

When repotting some potted plants, we will check whether the plant's roots are growing well, whether there are any dead roots, rotten roots, or relatively weak roots, or even roots with pests and diseases. All of these need to be pruned in time, which is beneficial to healthy root growth.

6. Precautions

Generally speaking, annual flowers can be pruned before the flowering period or after the flowering period. New seedlings and flowers should not be pruned excessively; mature plants only need proper pruning.
