Recently it's peak cutting season, and many flower lovers are eager to give it a try, but some have also said, why is it that my stems stuck in soil haven't shown any sign of life for months? Don't worry, today Huahua will teach you a simple rooting method. Just toss the stems into water, and the problem of difficult rooting is solved immediately!

Water rooting of Gardenia jasminoides

G a r d e n i n g E n c y c l o p e d i a

Spring has arrived, and Gardenia jasminoides is ready to grow again. At this time, cuttings also root most easily, so why not give it a try right away?

Water rooting steps:

1. Prepare a larger cola bottle, and use scissors to make 1 cut from the upper part of the bottle. Be careful not to cut it completely off; just leave a portion attached on one side.

2. Prepare the Gardenia jasminoides stems needed for cutting. It is best to choose healthy semi-lignified stems, about 7-10 cm long. You can leave 1-2 leaves on the stem, and cut the lower end at a 45 degree angle.

3. Prepare a piece of foam board, and use scissors to cut the foam board into a circle the same as the cola bottle, just slightly smaller than the diameter of the cola bottle. Then insert the stems to be rooted into the foam board.

4. Put the foam board into the cola bottle, add water, and let the lower ends of the Gardenia jasminoides stems soak in the water. Because the foam board floats on the water surface, the leaves will not rot. Finally, seal the opening of the bottle with tape, cover it with the bottle cap, and poke a few holes in the cap for ventilation.

5. Place the cola bottle indoors in a spot where sunlight can reach it. The Gardenia leaves inside the bottle will carry out photosynthesis to promote rooting. The more water droplets form on the inner wall of the bottle, the higher the temperature inside, and the faster the rooting will be.

6. In about 7-10 days, the Gardenia jasminoides cuttings in the cola bottle will grow bright white roots!

Water rooting of Bougainvillea

G a r d e n i n g E n c y c l o p e d i a

Bougainvillea comes in many flower colors and blooms for more than half the year at a time. If it can be grafted, it becomes even more colorful and very beautiful!

Water rooting steps:

1. Buy several transparent acrylic tubes, then use a knife to cut them into small sections about 7-10 cm long for later use.

2. Prepare healthy Bougainvillea stems, peel off the outer bark from about the lower 2 cm of the stem to prevent bark rot, then wrap the stem with the cut non-woven fabric, with one end of the cloth strip level with the lower end of the stem.

3. Insert the Bougainvillea stem together with the non-woven fabric into the acrylic tube. This not only keeps the stem moist and ventilated, but also prevents the cutting from rotting.

4. Prepare a plastic tray, add 2 cm of water to the tray, then add a little rooting powder and stir. After that, place the Bougainvillea cuttings in.

5. In about 5-7 days, many small white dots will appear at the bottom of the Bougainvillea cuttings. At this point you can prepare to pot them up, or you can wait until the small white dots emerge and turn into roots before potting up.

6. Cut napkins into strips, moisten them with water, and wrap the stem starting from the root. Wrapping the stem with toilet paper can temporarily isolate the tender roots from contact with organic matter in the soil during cutting, which is more conducive to rooting.

7. For the cutting soil, you can prepare perlite, vermiculite and peat soil. Cut open a plastic bottle, evenly burn 3-5 holes in the bottom of the bottle, then place vermiculite at the bottom, and after that fill the plastic bottle with nutrient soil mixed from peat soil and perlite.

8. Put the Bougainvillea stem into the nutrient soil in the plastic bottle, cover the seedling with the upper part of the plastic bottle, water it thoroughly 1 time, and place it on a sunny windowsill. In less than about 1 month, you will see the Bougainvillea roots grow out through the bottom of the plastic bottle.

9. Use scissors to cut open the plastic bottle. Be careful not to break apart the soil around the roots as much as possible, then transplant it into a slightly larger flower pot, place it in a cool and ventilated place to recover for 1 week, and after that place it directly in direct sunlight.

Water rooting of Epipremnum aureum

Recently Huahua pruned Epipremnum aureum and kept quite a few stems. These stems can root when tossed into water, and soon turn into a new pot of Epipremnum aureum!

Water rooting steps:

1. Choose healthy Epipremnum aureum stems, then cut the stems into small sections about 5-7 cm long.

2. Prepare a small bottle filled with water, with the water level at about 2/3 of the bottle, then insert the lower ends of the stems into the water and place it in a spot with bright scattered light.

3. In about 1 week, the water-rooted Epipremnum aureum will sprout small roots.

4. After rooting, the Epipremnum aureum can continue to be grown in the bottle, or you can prepare loose and breathable nutrient soil and transplant the rooted Epipremnum aureum into a flower pot for soil culture. Either way, the Epipremnum aureum will grow rapidly!

Water rooting of Kalanchoe blossfeldiana

Many flower lovers' Kalanchoe blossfeldiana have recently reached the end of their bloom. When pruning, do not throw away the cut stems. Use them directly for water rooting, and they will turn into a new pot of Kalanchoe blossfeldiana in no time!

Water rooting steps:

1. From the pruned Kalanchoe blossfeldiana stems, select healthy ones and trim them slightly. Leave 2-3 leaves on each cutting.

2. Soak the Kalanchoe blossfeldiana stems in rooting water for about 20 minutes, let them dry, then insert them into clean water, with the lower ends of the stems slightly touching the water, and place them in a spot with good scattered light for care.

3. In about 7-10 days, the water-rooted Kalanchoe blossfeldiana will grow white roots.

4. After rooting, you can choose to continue growing them in a hydroponic bottle to admire the white roots, or directly transfer them into a flower pot for soil culture. They will soon fill the pot!
