Can pothos be watered with rice water? This is the correct way to do it

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
It can be watered with the water left over from washing rice, but you cannot do this directly, otherwise the roots will be burned. You should ferment it first; you can add some orange peel to prevent a foul smell, then dilute it with 4 parts clean water. Rice water like this is very nutritious, harmless to the environment, and very suitable for plants.

1. Whether the water left over from washing rice can be used for watering

It can be watered with the water left over from washing rice, because this water contains the nutrients it needs. You can ferment it before use; at that point it becomes fertilizer, so it can no longer be used directly as water. Everyone must keep in mind that growing flowers requires knowledge in many areas, and sunlight, air and moisture all need attention.

2. How to use it for watering

1. Put the water left over from washing rice into an empty jar, then cover it; a larger-sized beverage bottle will also work. Then put it in the sun to bask. If it is winter, leave it in the sun for about two weeks; if it is a hot season, about one week in the sun is enough.

2. If a foul smell develops during this process, you can put some orange peel into the bottle to ferment together. Also, do not screw the bottle cap on too tightly, otherwise the bottle may swell and crack. The bottle needs to be fairly large, and do not fill it with water all the way; leave some space.

3. After fermentation, take the relatively clear liquid on top, dilute it with 4 parts clean water, and use it to water the pothos. Except in winter, water it 2 times a week, alternating in this way. In winter, if the temperature at home is not below 15°C, you can do the same as in the other three seasons; if it is lower than 15°C, the number of waterings needs to be reduced by half, which is better for it.

3. Precautions

1. Do not directly use the water left over from washing rice to water it, otherwise the soil will become compacted and the roots will be burned, so it must be fermented first, and do not pour it onto the leaves; this is the most important point.

2. Ordinary water left over from washing rice cannot replace clean water for watering it. Generally, the water from the first rinse of rice is fairly thick, and if you use it directly to water it, the roots are very easily damaged.

3. Rice contains a substance called starch, and the bacteria in the soil will dissolve it into sugars, which easily attracts insects. After fermentation, it is weakly acidic and contains a lot of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium components. It has no harmful substances and is rich in nutrients, making it very suitable for this flower.
