Reasons Why Kalanchoe Does Not Grow Flower Buds and How to Fix It

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
This plant looks like it should bloom, but while growing it we may find that it has not grown any flower buds. What exactly is going on? In fact, this is related to its nutrition, and also to sunlight and watering. We can give it fertile soil, an appropriate amount of fertilizer, enough light and other conditions, along with sufficient water and a suitable temperature.

1. Soil

We still need to start from the roots. You should know that soil has a fairly big influence on it. If we use relatively heavy, clayey soil, it will not develop very well, and naturally it will not grow flower buds either. So we generally use leaf mold and garden soil, and it is best to add some river sand or bone meal, as this is more suitable for it.

2. Fertilizer

1. We can add some nutrient solution containing potassium and phosphorus, then dilute it and pour it onto its roots, so that its nutrient levels will be relatively high. Once a week is enough, and after that it will start to grow flowers.

2. We must be careful to ensure good base fertilizer before it blooms. We usually carry out this operation when repotting, and in summer we should apply more nitrogen fertilizer to it.

3. Sunlight

This is a plant that needs short-day conditions. Generally speaking, we should give it about eight hours of light each day, and when it does not need light, it is best not to give it any, otherwise it easily will not grow flowers. So we can shade it ourselves, for example by covering it with a black bag, generally starting at six in the evening and removing it at eight in the morning, so that it will be more likely to grow flowers.

4. Watering

In addition, watering is also a very important part. Generally speaking, when it shows a tendency to bloom, we should water it a little less, usually only two or three times a month. This can promote the opening of the flowers, and the flowering period will also be longer.

5. Spraying Monopotassium Phosphate

When it is blooming, we can spray some monopotassium phosphate on it, but it cannot be sprinkled directly on it. Generally, it is mixed into water and then added each time we water the flowers. This can also make the flowers bloom faster. Just remember that after it has finished blooming, this substance should no longer be used.

6. Temperature

In fact, temperature is also a very important point. Generally speaking, it is relatively easy for it to bloom in the range of 15 to 20, so if your home is relatively cold, you can consider keeping it warm. If you have underfloor heating, it is better not to place it directly on the floor, otherwise the flowers can easily be scorched.
