Causes and Solutions for Shrivelled, Soft Snake Plant Leaves

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
If its leaves show these symptoms, it may be that the light is too strong, or that it has been exposed to light for too long, scorching it. In that case, put it in a shady area and let it recover slowly. It may also be that it has been watered too much, damaging the roots, which then shows up in the leaves. In that case, put it in the sun to dry out the moisture, then move it to a suitable spot. It may also be a bacterial infection, soft rot disease, in which case treat it with copper oxychloride.

1. Too Much Sunlight

1. Cause

If direct sunlight hits it, it will shrivel, because the sunlight is too strong and scorches it. This is especially likely during the height of summer, when the weather is extremely hot and the sun is too intense. The roots easily suffer from high temperatures and lack of water, leading to insufficient nutrients, and the leaves are then damaged.

2. Solution

During the height of summer, be careful not to let it receive direct sunlight; overly harsh sunlight makes its water evaporate very quickly, and the soil easily dries out completely. In summer, find it a shady area, water it morning and evening every day, and mist its leaves.

2. Too Much Watering

1. Cause

Even in a very dry environment, it can survive for a long time, so we do not need to worry about it lacking water. However, if the watering method is wrong, its leaves will also shrivel. This usually happens in hot weather: if you water it at noon, the temperature in the soil drops sharply and its roots are damaged.

2. Solution

At this point you should help it drain the water out of the soil, leave it in the sun for a while, and once some of the moisture has dried off, move it to a suitable environment to recover slowly. Normally, it is best to water it in the morning or evening. If the soil dries out at noon, first put it in a shady area, and once the soil temperature has come down, water it again. Also, do not water directly onto its roots; let the water seep in slowly.

3. Bacterial Infection

1. Cause

Many kinds of bacteria can cause its leaves to shrivel and bring on soft rot disease.

2. Solution

First, remove all the diseased leaves, then treat it with copper oxychloride once a week; after three treatments in a row, it will gradually recover.
