What to Do If Your Lucky Bamboo Grows Too Tall? Here's the Correct Way to Handle It
1. No treatment needed
Sometimes the plant has just grown a bit long and only slightly affects its ornamental appeal, with no effect in other respects. So if this is the case, we can leave it alone for now and deal with it once it grows longer.
2. Root trimming
If it has grown too tall, we can take the plant out and use scissors to cut its roots at a slant. Note that the roots you choose should be the older ones, not the too-tender ones. Otherwise, it won't easily grow new roots. After trimming the roots, place it in a cool, shaded spot to dry for about half a day, so the wounds can rest.
After that, you can put it back in its original container. After this treatment, it may no longer grow especially fast. Also, don't throw away the trimmed roots; you can tie them together with the original plant. New leaves and roots will grow. This way, it will later grow into a plant with an even more unusual shape.
3. Cutting it off directly
This method is for water-grown plants. If it grows too tall, you can simply cut it off. Prepare a sharp knife and cut the base at a slant, making the cut as smooth as possible. This way, the area for absorbing nutrients and water will be larger. After that, change the water once every three to four days.
