When Does the Jade Plant Bloom? A Detailed Guide to Its Flowering Period
1. Difficulty
This plant is genuinely very difficult to get to bloom. Some people even group it together with the sago palm (Cycas revoluta) as a plant that rarely flowers, which shows just how hard it is to make it bloom. Surveys show that in some people's homes, the jade plant took six years to bloom, while others have grown it for eighteen years and it has flowered only twice. Because its flowering span is so long, it is better to wait patiently.
2. Timing
Its flowering period is actually fairly long. It blooms in both summer and autumn, lasting about one hundred days, so some people's plants may bloom in winter.
3. Care
Because this plant is quite difficult to get to bloom, many people think of it as a foliage plant, so they do not care for it using the correct methods, which only makes it less likely to flower.
We need to repot it every spring, add some fairly fertile soil, and then place it in a spot with plenty of sunlight. Apply a light fertilizer once every ten days or so. As for watering, do it once every two or three days, and it is best to keep both dryness and humidity well balanced. If the temperature is relatively high, provide good shade.
In addition, in summer it is best to pay attention to ventilation. If the rain is heavy, move it indoors, otherwise it can easily become waterlogged and die. Of course, between August and October it grows relatively fast, and at this time we should increase the light and no longer provide shade.
If frost descends, it should still be placed in a spot with fairly abundant sunlight, and fertilization should stop. Overall, watering and fertilizing in spring and autumn are the same; normally, watering is half of what it is in summer. In short, if we care for it as required, even though it may not bloom every year, we can still increase the chances of it flowering.
