What to Do When a Kalanchoe Has Root Rot? Cause Analysis and Rescue Methods
1. Cutting Away
After taking it out of the pot, prepare a sharp, sterilized tool and cut away the parts of the roots that have already rotted, especially the parts visible to the naked eye that have gradually changed from fresh green to brown. Do not feel reluctant; be sure to cut away all the rotted parts until we see that the stem is no longer rotting.
2. Applying
Prepare some disinfecting solution, such as carbendazim and the like, and apply some to the remaining stems after cutting. This can effectively prevent the plant from being infected by bacteria again. Then you can place it in a relatively shady spot to air dry for a few hours, and then use it for cuttings. At this point the branches will be relatively healthy and have a protective layer.
3. Pruning
If the branches you cut off still have flower buds growing on them, you must, absolutely must, remember to cut off the flower buds. Do not think that these flower buds can still grow, because that will only waste nutrients for nothing. However, the leaves must be kept, because leaves can carry out normal biological processes and can effectively promote the branches to grow new roots again. This kind of pruning is very beneficial for the plant's regrowth.
4. Water Culture
This plant can be grown not only in soil but also in water, because it very easily grows roots. After about one to two weeks, it will grow new roots in the water. Once they have grown out, you can just transplant it directly into a pot.
