Detailed Explanation of the Methods and Steps for Propagating Jade Plants from Cuttings

There are two ways to do it: leaf cuttings and stem cuttings. For leaf cuttings, you first need to choose the right medium, then cut off the leaf and let it dry, after which you insert it into a sand bed; it will grow roots in about four weeks. For stem cuttings, first prepare the soil, then cut off a relatively robust tip cutting, about 8 to 10 cm long. After drying it in the sun, insert it into a sand bed, and it will generally begin to grow roots in three weeks.

1. Leaf Cuttings

The leaf cutting method is very simple, and the chances of success are relatively high. Generally, we first need to choose the medium; you can consider using sand and peat, and if you can add a little stone, that is even better. If you cannot find these materials, you can just take some soil from the ground on the spot.

There are two specific methods for leaf cuttings. One is to first cut off the leaf, then let it dry, after which you insert it into a sand bed; it will grow roots in about four weeks. The next step is potting it up, which is generally done after the roots have grown 2 to 3 cm. The other method is to simply place it on top of the medium, and it will soon grow roots as well; this latter method is much the same as propagating succulents.

2. Stem Cuttings

The survival rate with stem cuttings is especially high, even higher than with leaf cuttings. In the words of others, there are simply no failure cases. Stem cuttings, like leaf cuttings, also require preparing the soil first, then cutting off a relatively fertile tip cutting, with the length kept at about 8 to 10 cm. After that, dry it in the sun, and once it is slightly dry, insert it into a sand bed; it will generally begin to grow roots in three weeks.

After it grows normally, we should water it moderately, and we should also usually keep it in a dry and windy place; only in such an environment will it grow relatively well. We should note that we must not take cuttings in winter, because this is its dormant period, and results at this time will not be good. Apart from that, all three other seasons are suitable for the operation; after cutting, it easily grows roots, and it also easily grows dense and full.
