How to grow Kalanchoe seeds? Detailed sowing method
1. Seeds
First of all, one point needs to be explained: not all Kalanchoe plants will produce seeds. Generally speaking, only the single-petaled type has this thing called seeds. In addition, this kind of flower is not of high value, so it is recommended that you still not sow seeds, and it is best to directly buy seedlings instead. Of course, even fewer people choose to buy its seeds, so this is also a relatively difficult method. Because the seeds of this plant are very small, there are about 30,000 to 90,000 seeds in one gram.
2. Substrate
For this thing called substrate, its pH must first be determined. Generally, we need to give it a pH value between 6.0 and 6.5. In addition, we need to sterilize these things and water them thoroughly. As for the composition of the substrate, we generally use one part peat, one part sand, and four parts vermiculite. The specific method is to scatter the seeds on top of the substrate, and there is no need to cover them.
3. Germination
After scattering the seeds on top, we need to cover it with a fairly clean plastic or glass cover, then place it in a spot with diffused light, and it must not be exposed to direct sunlight. It can germinate in about ten days, but what needs to be ensured is that its temperature is around 17°C. After the sprouts come out, we must immediately move away the layer covering it.
4. Light
Because this kind of plant relatively prefers short daylight, if it is planted in January, it may very likely lead to excessive nutrition. However, some people say that before it grows eight leaves, giving it sunlight cannot promote its flower bud differentiation, and only after that can light have an effect on it. So we can adopt methods to control it. As long as it is given a certain amount of light from after 10 p.m. to after 2 a.m. the next day, and this treatment continues until March, it can still grow normally.
5. Transplanting
Generally speaking, after we plant the seeds, seven weeks later, if it has grown to a certain size, we can consider moving it into a pot. Generally speaking, seeds sown in mid-March can be sold in December, and the size is about four inches, while around January of the second year it can grow to five or six inches.
