Reasons Why Pothos Leaves Curl and How to Fix Them

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
When pothos leaves curl, the plant does not look as attractive, so we need to find a way to help it recover. This first requires us to identify the cause of the curling, and then deal with it: if its roots have been infected by bacteria, we need to prune and disinfect them in time; if it lacks water or nutrients, we should replenish them promptly; if the environment it grows in is not suitable for it, then move it to a suitable place to grow.

1. Roots

Root damage is an important cause of curling in the lower leaves, and generally in this case we do not need to do anything, as it will return to normal after a period of time. But if bacteria have infected the plant because of this, we need to dig it out entirely, remove the rotten roots, disinfect them, then rub on some plant ash, and finally replant it.

2. Water

Water is also an important factor affecting it. When there is relatively little water and the soil dries out, the leaves will curl, so watering it at this time is a very good solution, but we must control the amount, because if there is too much water the leaves and roots will be soaked and rot. Especially in winter, when water does not evaporate as easily, it is best to water once every ten days or so, while in summer it should be watered once every two or three days.

3. Soil

Poor soil is one of the influencing factors. At this time what we need to do is replace the soil. Generally, the soil we give it should be sandy, relatively fertile, and have strong drainage.

4. Light

It needs fairly good light, because this way its leaves will be green and more glossy, so in winter we can place it at a south-facing window, while in spring, summer and autumn it can be placed on the north side, though in summer we need to be careful to shade it from the sun. Overall, if it stays in a relatively dark place for a long time, it is very likely to develop very long stems, grow in a sprawling way, and its leaves may also curl up.

5. Temperature

The temperature it needs also has a certain influence on its growth, so we should place it in an environment between 20 and 30 degrees.

6. Nutrients

A lack of nutrients can also lead to this situation. Generally, we should fertilize it once every two or three weeks, mainly with nitrogen fertilizer each time, and in addition, add a compound fertilizer every three or four weeks. Finally, we should remember to repot it every year, using relatively ordinary soil, as long as it is leaf mold or garden soil and other nutrient-rich soil.
