What to Do When Pothos Leaves Split? Causes and Solutions
1. Normal metabolism
Sometimes its leaves splitting is normal, because as we know it needs metabolism, and after a period of time its leaves will split, which is a normal phenomenon. However, this situation does not occur often, and the interval between each occurrence is relatively long.
Solution: In this case, there is no need to do anything; just wait for it to recover.
2. Waterlogging
Water is a very important point, because if we add too little water it will cause a series of problems, and if we add more water than the normal amount, the plant will develop the problem mentioned above.
Solution: At this time, what we should do is place it in a relatively windy spot so that the excess water can be dried out. In addition, we should place it in a spot with sufficient light; this method can help the excess water disappear faster. Of course, we can also place a small piece of wooden board under its base to increase air permeability, making waterlogging less likely.
3. Fertilizing
Applying too much fertilizer will cause problems. Generally, we should stop fertilizing after autumn, otherwise the leaves will easily split.
Solution: If fertilizer has already been applied, you can consider flushing it out. Of course, if too much fertilizer was applied by accident, you can also take the measure of repotting to save it. Of course, normally we should still fertilize when needed; if we do not fertilize, it will also cause a series of bad problems.
4. Root rot
In some cases, the dry splitting occurs because its roots have rotted, so the leaves dry out and split. In other words, the dry splitting of the leaves is the surface phenomenon, while the deeper cause is root rot.
Solution: At this time, we can consider cutting off the rotten roots and then applying some plant ash. Of course, if the cause of root rot is too much water, you can save it by following the second method.
So dry splitting is not scary. As long as we find the cause and then look for a solution based on the cause, there is no need to worry that it will continue to split.
