Identification and Control of Common Pests and Diseases of the Jade Plant
Aphids
1. Symptoms:
This pest and disease mainly targets its tender areas; it particularly likes sap, so it often sucks out the sap, which causes problems with the plant's growth. In addition, the secretions of this insect easily attract ants, and some other diseases can also arise.
2. Control methods:
1. When there are relatively few of them, we can use a small brush to brush the insects away, or we can use a laundry detergent solution to brush them off.
2. We can use dichlorvos. The method is to soak a strip of cloth in dichlorvos, then place this cloth inside the pot, and then cover the plant together with the pot in a plastic bag, sealing it for one day.
3. We can also use mosquito-killing agents to kill them, and we can also use a 600- and 800-fold solution of essential balm to spray them.
4. Diluting soaked cigarette-butt water and then spraying it on the aphids can also treat them. In addition, crushing 20 grams of onion and adding 1000 grams of water, then spraying it after 24 hours, can also kill them.
5. Pesticides that can be purchased, such as omethoate emulsifiable concentrate, can also be used to treat this insect.
Rot disease
1. Symptoms:
This disease starts rotting from the bottom. It is generally brown, a soft rot, and then it spreads to the whole plant.
2. Causes:
Generally there are several causes of this disease, including watering, drainage, soil air permeability, and unrotted organic fertilizer.
3. Solutions:
Generally there are several solutions, including watering appropriately, improving its air permeability, pulling out the more severely affected plants, applying Dakning (miconazole nitrate cream) or sulfur powder to its wounds, and normally using rotted fertilizer for fertilizing. In addition, we should also use disinfected soil; the things generally used for disinfection are formaldehyde, or carbendazim, or zineb.
