When you keep lucky bamboo at home, it develops yellow leaves as time goes by. What should you do? There are many causes of yellow leaves, and today Huahua will explain how to effectively prevent yellow leaves!

Why does lucky bamboo get yellow leaves?

1. No roots. Newly bought lucky bamboo has not yet grown roots, so the plant does not have enough nutrients, and yellow leaves appear.

2. Iron deficiency. When it lacks the element iron, lucky bamboo also gets yellow leaves, usually showing as tender yellow leaves.

3. Dryness. Lucky bamboo likes a moist and warm environment. If the air is too dry, it can also cause yellow leaves and dry tips.

4. Light. Too strong sunlight will make lucky bamboo leaves yellow and dry up; going without light for a long time will cause the new leaves of lucky bamboo to be tender yellow and the leaves to lose their gloss.

5. Not changing the water in time. If you do not change the water for hydroponic lucky bamboo for a long time, it will also cause yellow leaves.

What should you do when lucky bamboo has yellow leaves?

Hydroponics:

1. First remove and pick off the yellow leaves, otherwise they will use up the nutrients of the other leaves.

2. Trim the roots. If the roots are damaged or there is root rot, first cut off the rotten roots, then put it in water to grow, otherwise it will continue to infect the other roots and cause yellow leaves.

3. When rooting, you can put 1 tablet of aspirin in the water. Change the water in the bottle once every 3 days. It is best to use purified water; tap water should be left to sit for a day before use to remove the chlorine in it. It can grow roots in 15~20 days.

3. Add nutrient solution. If lucky bamboo is short of iron, you can add ferrous sulfate solution to the water to supplement iron, adding it each time you change the water. Mix ferrous sulfate with clean water at 1:1000.

4. Usually you can use a spray bottle to spray a little water on the leaves to maintain humidity, or spray water into the air around it.

5. Lucky bamboo is generally kept indoors in most cases. It cannot take direct sunlight, nor should it be in too dark a place. Just place it in a spot indoors with bright indirect light, such as the living room.

6. If you use tap water directly to grow lucky bamboo, the water quality easily spoils. It is best to let tap water sit in the sun for a day before use; purified water or well water is recommended.

When changing the water, you do not need to take the whole lucky bamboo out. Just tilt the bottle and pour the water out. Fill the water to 1/2 or 2/3 of the bottle.

Soil culture:

1. Lucky bamboo grown in soil grows rather slowly. When yellow leaves appear, it is generally because the nutrients in the potting soil are insufficient.

2. At this point we can repot the lucky bamboo into a slightly larger pot and prepare new soil.

①Prepare a flowerpot with drainage holes that is a bit larger than the previous one.

②Lucky bamboo likes a moist environment, so we can make potting soil with garden soil and river sand at 1:1 to ensure water drainage and air permeability.

③Clean the soil off the roots of the lucky bamboo from the original pot, try to avoid damaging the roots, then separate them and plant them into the new flowerpot.

④After planting, water it thoroughly and the repotting is done.

3. Lucky bamboo grown in soil is rather afraid of drying out. Generally water it about once every three days, and also often spray a little water on the leaves with a spray bottle to maintain humidity. In winter, reduce the frequency of watering.

4. If you want lucky bamboo to grow vigorously, you can crush some eggshells and put them in the potting soil.

How can you make lucky bamboo grow fast?

1. The most suitable growing temperature for lucky bamboo is around 20°C. In summer, protect it from the sun; in winter, protect it from freezing.

2. Do not place lucky bamboo next to a TV, air conditioner, or electric fan, otherwise it will cause dry tips and yellow leaves. You can place it beside the sofa.

3. Change the water once every 2~3 weeks. Purified water is best. Adding one tablet of metronidazole will prevent the water from becoming smelly.

4. Add two drops of nutrient solution to the bottle every month, and lucky bamboo will grow fast and green.

5. Newly bought lucky bamboo has no roots. Cut the bottom at a 45° angle to increase the contact area, so it will root quickly.
