Both its seedlings and plants that have grown for 3 years need repotting. Young plants should be repotted around April; prepare the soil for them, water them thoroughly after changing to a new pot to settle the roots, and prune the branches appropriately. Mature plants are usually repotted once every 3 years; after changing to a new pot, place them in a shady area to recover.

I. How to repot young plants

1. When a young plant you are growing reaches the point where it can be moved to a new pot, it needs to be repotted in time. It is usually repotted around Qingming, and it should be given a new pot one size larger than the original; either a clay pot or a ceramic pot is fine.

2. Like most other plants, it should be given soil that is sufficiently fertile, loose, airy and well-draining. The soil should preferably contain a great deal of humus. When potting it, you can add some livestock urine and manure or fermented cake fertilizer to the pot as a base fertilizer. The owner can also mix the soil themselves, using ordinary garden soil plus rotted leaves and some fine sand, coal ash, fermented cake fertilizer, etc., mixed together and then used for it.

3. After changing it to a new pot, water it thoroughly once to help stabilize its root system. Then prune its branches appropriately, remove weak and damaged branches, and after it recovers it can sprout new branches again. It can also be trimmed to make its tree shape more compact.

II. How to repot mature plants

1. After it reaches adulthood, it is generally repotted once every 3 years or more, and this should be done before it flowers. First take it out of the old pot, remove the roots that have grown too densely, and then move it into a new pot. The size of the new pot should be determined by its growth condition; it is best to change it to a large flower pot.

2. First cover the bottom of the new pot with a layer of tile pieces to make drainage even better, then use rotted cake fertilizer as the base fertilizer, and spread a layer of prepared potting soil on top. Then move it into the pot, press the soil around it a little firmer, water it thoroughly once, and place it in a cool area for a few days of care.

3. Before repotting it, prepare the soil in advance; use airy soil, preferably sandy, and it is best to mix some fermented organic fertilizer into the soil. After changing the pot, carry out normal watering, fertilizing and pruning care so that it can maintain good growth momentum, its tree shape can be neater, and its flowers and fruit will grow better.
