Bougainvillea
Bougainvillea is also known as paper flower, leaf flower, ninefold vine, and baojin. Its flowering period is July to October, but as long as the temperature is suitable, it can bloom in all four seasons.
Its ability to grow on its own is also quite strong, and it can be propagated by cuttings. Generally, after flowering in June to July, cut mature semi-lignified branches 10 to 15 cm long, soak the base of the cuttings in rooting water, then insert them into a sand bed, and they will root in about 1 month.
Care is as follows:
1. Bougainvillea likes light. Insufficient light during the growing season will weaken the plant's growth and affect flowering. In winter, it should be placed in a bright spot, and it must receive no less than 8 hours of light each day, otherwise it easily drops a large number of leaves.
2. Bougainvillea needs to maintain sufficient nutrients. I often water it with rice-washing water, then fertilize it with a special bougainvillea fertilizer. Fertilizing should be done by applying light doses many times, that is, a small amount at a time and often, with thin fertilizer. This avoids damaging the roots. Normally, fertilize once every 5-7 days.
3. The flowering period is very long. The bougainvillea at my home blooms from March and April until around July. Then starting from October, it can bloom for two months. When it blooms, the leaves all drop, and branches full of flowers greet the eye, a whole scene of brightness. Before the flowering period, control water and do not fertilize.
