What kind of soil is best for growing tree peonies?
1. Soil for ground planting
If planting in the open ground, plant it in an area with sunlight and no standing water. Common cultivation soil, or soil with moderate pH or slightly alkaline pH, is also fine. It suits relatively airy, fertile soil; the soil needs to be deep enough and able to drain.
2. Soil for potted planting
If planting in a pot, spread small stones at the bottom of the pot, and they need to be 3-5 cm thick to help it drain excess water. For soil in the pot, it is best to use loess mixed with some cake fertilizer, or mix animal manure with ordinary garden soil and coarse sand.
3. Points to note
Before planting, be careful to let its roots spread out and not let them curl. After planting it, press the soil firmly with your hands so the roots and soil can contact closely, and only then will it be more likely to survive.
3. Soil and fertilizing
1. After potting, water it thoroughly and put it in a shady place to let it recover slowly. During normal care, you can put it in a warm, sunny place, and make sure there is sufficient sunlight.
2. Newly potted flowers must not be fertilized right away, especially not with highly concentrated fertilizer, otherwise its fleshy roots will rot.
3. Newly planted flowers can slowly be given some animal manure or other light fertilizer after half a year. During its growth period, loosen the soil often, and apply a compound fertilizer about once every 15 days.
4. After one or two years of planting, it can bloom every year, usually blooming in April. Before blooming, you can give it liquid fertilizer once or twice. About half a month after the flowers appear, you can give it liquid fertilizer once or twice more. In extremely hot weather, you can give it dry fertilizer to help its flower buds sprout.
