What are the cultivation methods and precautions for kumquat

When caring for it, choose fertile soil, keep the temperature between 22-28°C, and provide plenty of light but shade it appropriately in summer. In summer, add more phosphorus fertilizer to help it bear fruit. When the weather is relatively dry, sprinkle water on it to increase humidity, and prune when the branches grow long to help the tree shape look better.

I. Cultivation methods

1. Soil

It likes relatively fertile, loose soil, preferably sandy and acidic. If growing it as a potted plant, you can use rotted leaves plus sandy soil and a little fertilizer, and it is ready to use.

2. Temperature and humidity

The temperature range it needs is between 22-28°C. If the temperature in the room is too high, it cannot fully enter dormancy, and its growth the following year will be poor, making it prone to dropping flowers. In winter, as long as the temperature in the room does not get low enough to freeze water, there is no adverse effect on its growth. Although it likes humidity, it is afraid of waterlogging. If the soil in the pot is too wet, its roots rot very easily, so during its growth period the soil only needs to be appropriately moist.

3. Light

It likes areas with long sunlight hours, warmth and water. When caring for it, place it in a suitable area. If there is not enough light and the atmosphere is too shady, it will grow rampant branches and leaves, and produce very few flowers and fruits. Because it likes coolness in summer, if the summer sun is too strong, it still needs to be shaded.

4. Fertilizing

It likes fertilizer very much. From when its buds begin to sprout until it produces flowers, you can give it fermented fertilizer water once a week. When summer comes, give it more phosphorus fertilizer to promote flower bud formation and fruit bearing. On rainy days, pour out the water in the pot in time, otherwise the roots will rot.

II. Precautions

1. In spring, the weather is relatively dry and windy, so you need to sprinkle some water on its leaves every day to help increase humidity. In summer, spray it with water two or three times a day. If it is in the flowering period, pause spraying, otherwise the flowers will rot and fewer fruits will form.

2. To make it produce more fruit, pruning it is necessary. Before its buds have grown large, prune it heavily once, remove the withered branches and leaves on the tree, and leave only three or four healthy branches. For each branch, only keep the two or three buds near the base, and cut off all the rest.
