How to handle hydroponic tulips after they bloom

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
Recently a friend asked for help, saying that after their plant of this kind bloomed, the leaves grew very well with no abnormal signs, but the flowers that opened somehow withered. What exactly happened, and how should this plant be cared for after blooming?

I. Blooming time

This plant grows at different latitudes, so its blooming time also differs, but the general period is concentrated from late March to early May. In East China, China, our plants can be planted in September to October and will bloom from March to May the following year. In North China, it is best to plant in late September, and it can bloom from March to April the following year. In some places abroad, plants of this kind grown with their modified methods can bloom continuously from March to August.

II. How to care for it after blooming

1. The operation of growing this plant hydroponically is very simple, and it will be very neat and look beautiful too. With no soil, it also looks cleaner.

2. Before this plant is about to bloom, it will grow three to four leaves, and then flower buds will gradually emerge. When it is time to add fertilizer, be careful to use boron fertilizer, so that the flowers that open will be bright and colorful. Note that the nearby temperature should be adjusted to 17°C, so the flowers will open better.

3. About seven days after the buds emerge, they will open. After they open, place it somewhere that does not receive direct sunlight, so the blooming period can be extended.

4. After the flowers fade, cut them off two to three cm below the flower. Be sure not to cut too long, and do not cut the leaves. If it is rainy weather, do not water too much, otherwise the roots will rot.

5. If you plan to continue growing it hydroponically the next year, you need to strengthen its roots for at least two months. Wait until the leaves and stems of the plant have all turned yellow, then take out the bulb and remove the leaves and stems, and you can continue planting it the next year.

III. Precautions

1. Generally, if you bought the bulbs at a flower market and you did not help them regain strength, they can only be used for one year, and cannot continue to bloom the second year.

2. If the temperature where you store the bulbs is too high, and the temperature is also unsuitable when the flower buds appear, then the plant's development will be very abnormal, and the chance of blooming will become smaller.

3. If the water and fertilizer for your hydroponic tulips are not controlled properly, for example if there is too much water, or if phosphorus and potassium fertilizer is not added, this will make it difficult for them to bloom or result in flowers of poor quality.
