Orchids are precious because they stay evergreen all year round, have elegant leaf forms and beautiful flower wreaths that are plain yet not gaudy, and the quiet, delicate fragrance of orchids is loved by everyone.

However, if you want to see the orchid's graceful posture and quiet, delicate floral fragrance, you cannot cut corners in the care process. There are 3 key cultivation points to pay attention to, and flower lovers need to master them well.

1. There are points to pay attention to with flower pots

Orchids like to grow in clusters, so never plant a single solitary seedling. When dividing and caring for them, flower lovers should choose flower pots according to the number of orchid seedlings. Generally, 3-4 seedlings are more suitable for a pot with a mouth diameter of 20-25 cm, and 5-6 seedlings are suitable for 30-40 cm, and so on.

For the ratio of the height of an orchid pot to its mouth diameter, make the pot mouth diameter 1 chi and the pot height 8 chi; this ratio is very suitable. Clay pots are the most ideal choice for orchid pots, but as long as the chosen pot is suitable, plastic pots are also acceptable.

The golden season for dividing orchids is around the Dragon Boat Festival. At this time, you can repot and wash the roots once, remove old roots, waste roots, diseased roots, and hollow roots, and at the same time change to a larger pot, once a year.

2. There are points to pay attention to with planting

When planting orchids, if you use new pots of the ceramic type, they have a dry, fiery energy, so it is best to leave them for several months first or soak them in water for several hours before use. Other pots and old pots can be taken and used right away.

After choosing the pot, first break some broken tiles and place them in the bottom of the pot, covering the drainage hole well. Fill in a small amount of coarser humus soil or special orchid soil, then put some special orchid soil, sawdust, coarse chaff, etc. in the second layer. After mixing evenly, level and press firmly, with the middle slightly higher.

At this point, you can put the already divided orchid seedlings into the pot. The orchid seedlings should be selected with relatively complete root systems, little root length damage, and roots that are astringent, new and tender rather than blackened or hollow. Wash off the dust with water, cut off the blackened and hollow roots, trim away yellow leaves, and air-dry for several hours. Once the roots are soft rather than brittle, they can be potted. It is better to plant shallowly than deeply. Remember, "There is no trick to growing orchids; if the wind can blow them over, that is fine."

3. There are points to pay attention to with fertilizing

After planting the orchids, next add fermented chicken manure fertilizer. If conditions allow, you can also add some crushed eggshells, then add a layer of finer humus soil. In this way, the orchids are planted well. Then, fertilize no fewer than 5-8 times each year. It is best to alternate dilute liquid fertilizer and chicken manure fertilizer, and try to achieve "many meals but small portions."
