Can Lewisia be grown indoors?
1. Whether it is possible
We have already said above that it is possible, but some issues need attention.
2. The season issue
(1) In winter the temperature is relatively low, and sub-zero temperatures are a fatal blow to Lewisia, and since it is a flower that is extremely intolerant of cold, it is better to keep it indoors during the cold winter. It is best to find a sunny spot indoors to place it, so that you can both ensure sufficient light to meet its need for full sun and prevent it, being not cold-resistant, from suffering cold damage.
(2) In summer, the climate in most regions is either high temperature with lots of rain or hot and dry; in short, the temperatures are all high, and this plant is not tolerant of intense heat. If placed outdoors, the leaves are easily scorched by the blazing sun, and water is lost relatively quickly, which is not good for its growth, so the best place to grow it in summer is indoors. The indoor temperature is somewhat milder, and the ultraviolet intensity is relatively lower, so the water in the plant will not evaporate too quickly. As long as you take care not to let it fall into a state of water shortage, placing it indoors is completely fine.
(3) It can be seen from this that the temperatures in summer and winter are both rather extreme, either high or low, while the temperatures in spring and autumn are relatively mild, so it can be placed both indoors and outdoors. Because it itself likes a semi-shaded environment, if you are in a very humid area, in order to reduce the humidity and ensure that water is not supplied in excess, you should give it the outdoor condition of full sun. Generally, the light levels and humidity in spring and autumn can both satisfy its needs for sunlight and water. Although placing it indoors will block sunlight to a certain extent, placing it in a sunny spot such as a balcony will not affect its growth too much.
