Zinnia Blooming Time and Flowering Period Explained
1. Blooming time
This flower belongs to the chrysanthemum family, so its blooming time is also from June to September each year. The time mentioned here is its blooming time under normal conditions, because in some places where flowers are grown for viewing, people use certain methods to change or extend its blooming time.
2. Factors affecting blooming
Although its normal flowering period is from June to September, improper care can still affect the flowering period. In mild cases, it may delay flowering or shorten the flowering period; in severe cases, flowering may not occur at all. Therefore, when caring for it, pay attention to the following factors:
① Sunlight:
This plant grows faster in summer than in the other three seasons, so at this time it needs abundant sunlight to balance this; if sunlight is not sufficient, it is very prone to leggy growth, which seriously affects flowering and also greatly reduces its ability to resist pests and diseases.
② Temperature:
The most suitable growing temperature for it is between 18°C and 20°C during the day, and between 10°C and 15°C at night; its flowering period happens to fall in summer, so cooling work should be done properly. If the temperature is too high, it can easily affect flowering;
③ Nitrogen fertilizer:
Before and after the flowering period, reduce the amount of nitrogen fertilizer applied. Friends must keep this in mind.
④ Watering:
To be precise, this means spraying water. Before and after the flowering period, sufficient moisture is needed, but if the soil is watered continuously, it may cause leggy growth. At this point, you can switch to spraying water on the leaves, but be sure to choose the morning to spray the leaves, which can prevent leggy growth while also allowing it to absorb enough water.
