How many times a year does freesia bloom? A detailed explanation of its flowering cycle
1. The flowering period of this plant
As we said above, it generally blooms only once a year, from late winter to early spring. Specifically, its flowering period is concentrated from February to May. However, blooming once a year is only the general case. The climate in some regions can be very unusual, so special situations may also occur.
2. Methods to promote its flowering
(1) Temperature: For the plant to bloom, you must promote the differentiation of its internal flower buds. So temperature is an indispensable factor. We have already mentioned its specific flowering time above. You can see that it is very close to winter. In fact, its flower buds are already in the process of forming during winter. It is just that, because the temperature is relatively low, they remain dormant for the time being. To make it bloom, you must appropriately raise the temperature, preferably to 15 to 25 degrees. At home, you can use the following methods to raise the temperature. For example, place the flowerpot relatively close to a heat source. Another example is to cover the flowerpot with a transparent plastic cover, leaving a small gap for ventilation, and so on.
(2) Light: This is a short-day plant, and it needs a certain amount of light. However, the duration must not be too long either; it is best kept within twelve hours, with eight or nine hours being ideal. This makes it easier to promote the differentiation of its flower buds.
(3) Chemicals: If you want it to bloom faster, you can apply some chemicals to promote the differentiation of its flower buds, thereby increasing the number of flowers. About one or two weeks after use, it can send out new inflorescences.
