How do you grow azaleas so they thrive? A detailed guide to care methods
1. Pruning
This plant drops its flowers during the Spring Festival. At this time we cannot just leave it alone; we need to cut off its flower heads and the side branches that have grown too long, so that it can grow especially well. In addition, some varieties bloom more than 200 days after pruning, so we need to cut the heads once every 20-odd days, and by the way adjust the shape of the flowers, cutting the heads four or five times in total until the end of May. After stopping, it will bloom by the Spring Festival.
2. Soil
The soil we give it can actually be clean, fungus-free pine needle soil, because this kind of soil is better for its growth. We add a certain amount of carbendazim and the like to this soil and soak it for half an hour, then rinse it clean with clear water. After cleaning the soil off the roots, cut off the excess fibrous roots or dead roots, then put in the pine needle soil, press the soil firm, and just place it in a shady spot.
Moreover, we must often spray water on the leaves and on the potting soil to keep the humidity well maintained. After about half a month, white fibrous roots will grow. If we want to judge whether it has grown new roots, we can take it out of the pot and then observe. After that, we need to quickly put it back in the pot and press it firm again.
3. Fertilizing
If new roots have grown, we can consider applying fertilizer; only in this way will it grow better. For fertilizing we can use imported compound fertilizer, and the ratios of elements such as nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium are all 15. We can use a small amount of fertilizer and sprinkle it on top of the soil, and we can also sprinkle on ferrous sulfate to increase its acidity.
After that, water it, but once water starts leaking from the bottom of the pot, we should not continue watering. Be sure to remember that before fertilizing, the soil must not be too dry, otherwise it may absorb too much fertilizer and die of dehydration. As for the timing of fertilizing, it is generally once every half a month. During its growing period, we can slightly increase the number of applications; doing so will let it grow better.
