How to grow four-season azaleas? Cultivation methods and precautions

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
To grow this flower well, the most important thing to pay attention to is water. We need to give it water with a pH below 7.0, and the water temperature must also be suitable. Top up the water promptly in normal times and do not let its potting soil dry out. In addition, we must prevent some pests from attacking it, and promptly remove the spent flowers after the blooms fade.

1. Water

Watering it is a skilled task. Generally, the water we use needs to have a pH below 7.0, and if the water in your area tends to be alkaline, we can store rainwater to water it, or use snow water, and if conditions allow, aquarium water and river water are also very good. Of course, you can also acidify it yourself, for example by using vinegar.

In addition, we should also leave the water and the flower at the same temperature for a while, so that the temperature difference will not be too great. If the potting soil is not dry, we should not water it, but we also must not let it get too dry, otherwise the flower's leaves will wilt. Also, once you water, it must be thorough.

Moreover, winter and summer cannot be treated the same. In summer it can be a bit wetter, but not in winter, and during flowering you must not water too much, otherwise the flower can easily wither early. In spring and autumn, it should also be exposed to wind.

2. Pests and diseases

Because it can be attacked by the azalea lace bug, when this insect comes, we need to use some agents to kill it. And if it is the shoot-boring leaf roller, then you can catch it yourself and kill it; of course, its larvae or pupae can also be killed with agents such as dichlorvos.

3. Precautions

There are quite a few precautions. Because its roots are very fine and the main root is not very thick, we cannot let it get too dry or too wet, and we cannot apply heavy fertilizer to it; once heavy fertilizer is applied, its growth will have problems.

After the flowers fade, we should cut off the spent flowers and avoid letting it produce seeds, because that would consume nutrients, and after new shoots grow, some branches should be pruned according to their growth.

What it prefers is a clay pot, because clay pots are relatively breathable, so the roots will grow better.

In addition, there are particular requirements for where it is placed. Generally it should be placed in a ventilated southeast position, so that, first, there are good light conditions, and second, it can be given a good air environment, preventing it from developing black spots or dropping leaves due to lack of ventilation.
