What causes the yew tree to drop its leaves?
1. Caused by watering
If you do not pay attention to the amount and frequency of watering, or if the plant is placed outdoors and is not drained promptly after heavy rain, the potting soil easily becomes too moist. When the roots stay in a moist environment for a long time, they begin to rot, and naturally the leaves begin to drop as well.
Solution: When watering, judge according to the condition of the potting soil. When the surface of the potting soil turns yellowish-white and the leaves curl slightly, do not rush to water it; just spray it lightly. If you grow it indoors, it is best to water once every 20 to 25 days; if you grow it outdoors, it is best to water once every 15 to 20 days. If there is heavy rain, pause watering and drain the accumulated water from the pot. If leaf drop has already occurred, we can repot it with new, well-drained potting soil.
2. Caused by not pruning for a long time
During care, if it is not pruned for a long time, the lower branches grow too vigorously and consume more nutrients, so the leaves begin to drop.
Solution: You can cut away part of the excess branches and leaves on the lower part. When pruning, you can shape it into various forms, such as an umbrella shape, a round shape, and so on. This kind of pruning can greatly reduce the consumption of nutrients by the branches and leaves, allowing the root system to start growing normally, and the leaves will no longer drop. In addition, to keep the yew looking perfect, you can also appropriately remove its terminal buds and some side branches.
3. Caused by pests and diseases
Some yew trees are prone to various pests and diseases in high temperatures or dry seasons. The leaves are the first to be damaged, and leaf drop occurs.
Solution: We should spray with some medicines for treatment to prevent the pests and diseases from spreading.
