What to Do When Azalea Leaves Turn Red? Causes and Solutions

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
When growing this flower, we may notice one thing: its leaves have turned red. Why does this happen? Generally speaking, there are two reasons it goes from green to red: one is low temperature, and the other is strong light. So we just need to treat the cause: raise the temperature and move it to a place with weaker light.

1. Low temperature

Low temperature is a very important cause. We know that if it is too low, it may well enter a dormant state, and at this time the glucose in its leaves may turn red due to the stimulus of low temperature. If it is not autumn or winter, we can consider moving it to a warmer place.

But if this happens only after going through summer and autumn and then entering autumn and winter, we do not need to worry too much, because by the next spring, its leaves may well turn from red back to green. Moreover, some varieties, such as the Satsuki azalea, start turning red in autumn, and by winter they may turn even redder. In addition, some varieties may also turn red after winter, and some may even turn yellow and then drop, and all of these are fairly normal, so there is no need to worry too much. Generally speaking, when something is abnormal, we just need to give it the environment it needs and it will return to normal.

2. Light

Relatively strong light is also a very important reason for its leaves turning red. Generally speaking, it does not need direct light. If we still give it a semi-shaded environment, it will still grow fairly well. Of course, it may also be because the potting soil is too dry or too wet. In this case, we still need to water appropriately and control the amount well.

In short, under normal circumstances we still do not need to be too nervous. When it is dormant or semi-dormant, that is normal. Other abnormal situations, however, require us to quickly find a solution to help it return to its normal appearance.
