Reasons and Solutions for Yellowing Leaves on the Maidenhair Yew (Taxus media)

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
There are four main reasons for the yellowing of the Maidenhair Yew (Taxus media): planting too deep, flower soil pH too high, Fe deficiency, and temperature too low. For the above reasons, we can apply a fertilizer specifically for yellowing, moderately raise the temperature, and spray it with some FeSO4.

1. Reasons

Overall there are four main points. The first is that it was planted too deep, so its roots did not grow well, and thus this symptom appeared.

The second is that the pH of the flower soil is too high. Because it likes slightly acidic flower soil, and if flower soil with too high a pH is used to plant it, problems will definitely appear.

The third is a lack of the element Fe. This element helps form chlorophyll, and once it is lacking, the plant cannot carry out photosynthesis normally, thus producing this symptom.

The fourth is that the usual temperature is too low, which will also cause problems.

2. Solutions

The solution must be carried out in stages. In the early stage, we need to solve it from three aspects. The first is to use a fertilizer specifically for yellowing, applied before its new branches grow out. The second is that FeSO4 can be used, sprayed on the leaves. The third is that the temperature needs to be raised, giving it suitable growing conditions.

Some affected plants may be yellowing because the soil is too alkaline, so after fertilizing there may be a brief period of green, but after half a year it will still turn yellow again. Some other plants are planted too deep, and problems have appeared in root growth. For these two situations, we need to change the soil for them.

In the middle and late stages of treatment, we still need to use a fertilizer specifically for yellowing, and moderately increase the dosage on the premise of ensuring the roots will not develop problems because of it. In addition, we can also drill some holes in its trunk and then apply fertilizer into them. After about seven days, its leaves will turn green.

In addition, we also need to prune, cutting off those branches whose root vigor is far less than before, so that its nutrients can be concentrated. If the yellowing is relatively severe, we can prune more, but it still depends on how many leaves there are. If there are too few leaves, we should still prune less, otherwise it will become completely bare.
