How to grow Maire yew? A detailed guide to cultivation methods

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
Growing Maire yew requires giving it enough light, but it also needs appropriate shading in midsummer; give it a moderate amount of water and a ventilated growing environment. In addition, in winter we need to place it in a wind-sheltered spot with sunlight and reduce the amount of watering.

1. Light

During its young stage, we must not give it overly strong light, so letting it grow in diffused sunlight is better. If it is summer with especially abundant sunlight, we need to place it in a relatively shady spot, so that its leaves and other parts will not be scorched, the leaves will not turn yellow because of this, and it will not stop growing or even die from too much sunlight.

But this does not mean we can let it grow in a very dark place all the time; in fact, the best method is to place it in a spot with a moderate amount of light.

2. Ventilation

It needs a certain amount of ventilation, because lacking this condition may very likely cause its leaves to curl up and become dry and withered. In addition, in winter we should also pay attention to one thing: never face it toward an air conditioner or place it near a heater, otherwise its leaves will lose a lot of water and the leaves will still dry up and curl.

3. Watering

Watering is very important for it, but we need to note that we cannot water too much, otherwise its roots will be affected, then rot, and finally the whole plant will die. We should wait until the potting soil is dry before watering. Each time you water, you can watch the bottom hole and stop once water flows out from the bottom of the pot.

4. Overwintering

Overwintering is also a key part, because it is relatively cold-tolerant, so we do not need to worry too much; we just need to place it in a wind-sheltered spot with sunlight. In winter, the amount of watering should be controlled, because it may very likely freeze.
