How to repot an agave? Detailed method and step-by-step guide
I. How to repot
You should repot it in April each year. Carefully remove the old soil from the roots, cut off the dead roots, then sprinkle on medicine to disinfect, and finally replant it in a pot with good drainage and airflow. You can lay a layer of rough tiles at the bottom of the pot to increase airflow.
It grows very slowly, so it does not need frequent repotting. In fact, frequent repotting is not good for it and will make its growth condition worse. It is suited to dry areas, and sandy soil is best.
II. How to care for it after repotting
1. In the first few weeks, you should give it less water, then gradually increase it later. The suitable temperature for it is 15 to 25°C, and at night it is best around 10 to 16°C. Winter is relatively cold and very dry, which is very beneficial for its growth. If you want it to successfully get through the severe cold, adjust the temperature to above 5°C.
2. It rather likes sunlight, so move it outside often to get some light. However, if it is a variety that can produce flowers, you should give it appropriate shade in summer so that its color will look better and it will be more fresh and tender.
3. In winter, if its location is relatively dark, you should keep it at this temperature, do not water it, and maintain a dry environment, otherwise it will rot. In spring, immediately restore light for it, and a humidity of around 40 percent is best. During its growing season, give it fertilized water once every two weeks.
