What to Do About Black Spots on Carnation Leaves? Causes and Control Methods

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
There are two main reasons why carnations develop this problem: one is disease, and the other is a watering mistake. The way to deal with the former is to remove the diseased leaves and spray medication for treatment, while the way to deal with the latter is to pick off the leaves that have developed black spots.

1. Disease problems

(1) Specific causes: This is the most likely cause. There is a disease called "leaf spot disease." Just from its name, you can tell that it mainly harms the leaves of the plant. That's right, after contracting this disease, some small black spots may first appear on the leaves. Soon after, if the disease worsens, these black spots will grow larger and larger. In the end, the leaves will wither and fall off.

(2) Solutions: First, we need to pick off and properly dispose of the leaves that have already developed black spots and are relatively seriously affected. This is done to prevent them from endangering the healthy leaves. Next, we can use some medications to help the plant fight the disease.

2. Watering problems

(1) Specific causes: This is not about too much or too little water, but about accidentally splashing water onto the leaves when watering. As a result, if the leaves are then exposed to the sun, some sunscald spots will form. From a distance, these look like small black spots.

(2) Solutions: As for these leaves with black spots, since no disease is involved, leaving them on does no great harm. If you think they detract from the plant's appearance, you can pick them off. In addition, when watering, be sure to take care and pour downward carefully. To avoid splashing onto the leaves, you can water from the sides rather than from above.
