How to Propagate Snake Plants from Cuttings? A Detailed Step-by-Step Guide
1. Main Part
For this method, the main part we use is its leaves.
2. Choosing the Medium
We all know that this step has a big influence on the success rate of the cuttings. So, to improve the success rate, we must choose a relatively loose and airy soil. Specifically, we can choose a loose soil and mix some sand into it, and that will meet the requirements.
3. Choosing the Container
You can prepare a dedicated container, or you can insert the cuttings directly under the original plant. However, for convenience later on, it is still better to prepare a separate pot or the like.
4. The Actual Cutting Steps
(1) From a healthy, vigorous plant, snap off a few fresh leaves. After that, you can use them whole, or cut them into small pieces about six or seven cm long. Either way, you must first leave them to sit for about a day. This is to let the wounds dry.
(2) Next, insert them into the medium. Insert them carefully; the depth does not need to be too deep, about three to four cm is fine. However, do not make it too shallow either. Otherwise, they will easily topple over and will not readily grow roots.
(3) Once the above steps are done, place them in a darker spot. Note that the light must not be too strong. In addition, make sure there is ventilation. Water must also be supplied adequately to keep the potting soil moist enough. But too much water is also not acceptable, because freshly inserted leaves rot very easily.
5. Later Care
Make sure all the conditions are suitable, and just leave it there. We need enough patience to wait for it to grow roots. After about a month, once it has rooted, it will gradually grow small shoots.
