How to grow Dianthus (China pink) so it blooms more? Care tips shared

If you want it to produce more flowers, the soil must be fertile enough, water and fertilizer management must be constantly attended to, and the temperature should be adjusted in time according to the change of seasons, preferably between 13 and 22 degrees. After the flowers fade, prune promptly, as only then is there a chance of continuous blooming.

1. The soil must be fertile enough

It prefers loose, fertile sandy soil, and ideally the soil should contain plenty of humus. If you live in a mountainous area, you can use the soil from under trees on the mountain; this kind is usually black and very nutritious. If you live in a plains area, you can use ordinary soil plus some rotted leaves, then mix in some sand. This soil mix is very suitable for it and can make its branches and leaves more luxuriant and its flowers bigger and more numerous.

2. Water and fertilizer management should be strengthened

During its growth period, keep the flower soil moist, but there should not be too much standing water; once it has dried out completely, water it right away. Generally, spray it once every fifteen to twenty days with monopotassium phosphate, or apply a very dilute liquid fertilizer, or boil soybean residue, let it cool, and then pour it in; this can produce more flowers.

3. Temperature should be adjusted in good time

It is suited to living in an environment of 13 to 22 degrees. At around 18 degrees, its growth is most vigorous and the flowers it produces are the most beautiful. Once the temperature rises above 30 degrees, its growth slows down and the leaves are no longer as emerald green as before; once the temperature falls below 13 degrees, growth becomes even slower and the number of flowers it produces also decreases.

In winter, you can place it on a balcony with good enclosure, making sure the surrounding temperature is above 13 degrees. In the intense summer heat, place it in a shaded, ventilated area; the temperature must not be too high, otherwise it will enter dormancy. After the Start of Autumn, it begins to produce flowers, and at this time it should be placed in an area with light and air movement, with appropriate shading at noon. As long as the temperature is suitable, not cold in winter and not hot in summer, it can have flowers all year round.

4. Pruning after flowering should be timely

After its flowers fade, cut the flower stems off from the base, and new flower stems will grow again from the leaf axils.
