What to Do When Dianthus Leaves Droop? Causes and Solutions
I. Causes of Drooping
Generally, its leaves may droop for many reasons, such as inappropriate temperature and humidity, unsuitable light, soil pH that does not match, or watering too frequently so that the soil in the pot stays wet and never dries out, an environment that is too dark, poor ventilation, or fertilizer that is too concentrated in the pot. If it is a newly purchased plant, it may also be because the plant itself already had problems.
II. Solutions
1. If it is due to the wrong temperature, adjust it to above 15 degrees, because the temperature suitable for it is between 15 and 25 °C.
2. If it has been overwatered, the roots cannot breathe, and if drainage is not good enough, the cells in the leaves can easily die. The leaves will then wilt, so you can repot it with fresh soil.
3. If it is constantly exposed to the sun, its leaves will also droop. Place it in a semi-shaded area to recover, expose it to indirect light, and do not use strong light.
4. If none of the above applies, wait until the soil in the pot is almost dry, then give it a new pot and fresh soil, and check whether the roots are damaged or whether there are pests in the soil.
III. Care Tips
1. Pinching Buds
Its perennial root habit is not very strong. It is a perennial, but is usually grown for only one or two years. If grown in pots, you need to prepare enough base fertilizer, and planting two or three plants per pot is enough. When the seedlings reach 15 cm, remove the top buds to help the branches grow. Later, the axillary buds should be removed appropriately, otherwise there will be too many branches, nutrients will be spread out, and the flowers will grow relatively small. Removing the axillary buds allows nutrients to be more concentrated, so the flowers can grow larger and more vivid in color.
2. Water and Fertilizer
During the growing period, keep it in an area with light and airflow. The soil in the pot should be moist enough. Add fermented liquid fertilizer about once every ten days, and do not make it too concentrated. In summer during the rainy season, pay attention to drainage and loosen the soil. It crossbreeds very easily, so if you need to save seeds, isolate each pot of flowers. In winter, water less. If the temperature stays at 5 to 8 degrees, it can keep blooming through winter and spring.
