What to Do When the Leaves of a Four-Season Osmanthus Turn Yellow? Causes and Solutions

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
In the process of growing a four-season osmanthus, you may find that its leaves have turned yellow. There are mainly several causes, including its soil being alkaline, watering too much, fertilizing too much, the temperature being too low, lack of light, and possibly the occurrence of chlorosis. Depending on the cause, the corresponding conditions need to be adjusted to suit what this flower needs for growth.

1. Soil

This is a plant that likes slightly acidic soil. Once the soil it grows in does not meet its requirements, its leaves may gradually turn yellow. If this is confirmed as the cause, you can consider using acid to adjust it. Generally we use ferrous sulfate, soak it in water and pour it onto the soil. Or we can repot it and change the soil it lives in, which is also a fairly direct method.

2. Watering

If you water too much, it may cause its roots to sit in water, and in more serious cases it will make its roots rot, indirectly causing its leaves to turn yellow. At this point what we need to do is drive the water away. Generally speaking, putting it in a relatively dry place is one way to let the water drain away, and putting it in a ventilated place is another way. Of course, doing both together is even better.

3. Fertilizing

If we fertilize too much, it is also very likely to cause its leaves to turn yellow. Of course, this one is still caused through the roots, because they may be burned and indirectly affect the leaves. At this point, choosing to flush the fertilizer away with water is a fairly wise method.

4. Temperature

If the temperature is relatively low, this is also a cause of yellow leaves. Below 10 degrees it will grow yellow leaves. At this point we need to raise the temperature appropriately.

5. Light

When we grow it against a wall, we will find that the leaves on some branches have turned yellow. This is also because that part cannot get sunlight. The solution is relatively simple: move it to a place with light.

6. Chlorosis

Chlorosis is also an important cause of its leaves turning yellow. At this point we need to use chemicals to treat it. Generally we use sterilizing substances such as carbendazim.

7. Leaf replacement

Actually, there is another very natural reason for leaves turning yellow, and that is that its old leaves turn yellow and fall off so that new leaves can grow out. If this is the reason, everyone does not need to panic too much.
