Clivia (Clivia miniata) has deep green, thick, fleshy leaves and an elegant appearance. In Chinese culture, it is also a symbol of nobility and the character of a gentleman. Therefore, it is deeply loved by people and widely planted. But when growing Clivia, flower lovers often run into a headache-inducing problem - a rotten heart. Today Huahua will teach everyone how to solve this tricky problem.

Why does Clivia get a rotten heart?

Gardening Encyclopedia

A rotten heart in Clivia is mainly caused by improper watering during the hot season. Many flower lovers are careless when watering, pouring water into the heart of the plant, which causes the heart leaves of the Clivia to rot.

How do you rescue a Clivia with a rotten heart?

Gardening Encyclopedia

When rescuing a Clivia, flower lovers can choose the appropriate method according to how much the heart leaves have rotted, so as to avoid causing secondary damage to the Clivia through a poor choice of method.

1

The center of the heart leaves is necrotic

Solution:

1. Move the Clivia to a cool place, stop watering for 3 to 5 days, and let the soil in the pot dry out.

2. Use a clean blade to cut off the necrotic part of the leaf. Since a thick liquid may flow out of the cut, you can lay the flower pot on its side.

3. Use a clean paper towel or cotton swab to absorb the liquid at the wound and keep the surface of the wound dry.

4. Sprinkle carbendazim on the surface of the wound, place it in a dry, ventilated, cool place, and let the wound dry. During this period, do not spray water on the plant body, and keep the surrounding environment dry.

2

Multiple heart leaves are necrotic from the base

Solution:

1. First take it out of the pot, remove the whole Clivia from the flower pot, remove the soil from the roots and wash them clean.

2. Break off the rotten leaves until the junction of the leaf and stem is exposed. Use a sterilized blade to cut away all the rotten part at the junction of the leaf and stem, and disinfect with carbendazim.

3. Replant the disinfected and dried plant into the flower pot, paying attention to the depth - it only needs to be buried up to the root crown. Water the roots slightly, but not too wet, so as to avoid inducing root rot.

3

Severe necrosis

Solution:

1. Cut off everything above the rotten part; if there are healthy leaves, you can keep them as appropriate.

2. Disinfect, apply gentian violet to the cut surface, and keep the cut surface dry.

3. Bury the disinfected and cleaned roots in the soil, not too deep. Wait for the roots to produce new shoots.

How to avoid a rotten heart

After learning how to solve a rotten heart, that is not the end of the matter. How to avoid a rotten heart and keep your beloved Clivia from being harmed again is what matters most! Keep learning with Huahua~

1

Keep the soil on the dry side

Clivia itself has thick, fleshy leaves, stores a lot of water, and has a relatively poor ability to absorb water. So the soil should not be too wet; keep the soil on the dry side to avoid the leaves rotting and turning black.

2

Strictly control water

When watering, be sure not to pour water on the leaves, so that water does not run down the leaves into the heart of the plant. At the same time, avoid exposing the Clivia to rain; rainwater is relatively dirty and will cause the leaves in the heart to rot.
