Large numbers of the endangered and rare plant Chinese mosquito-plague appear in Yanxing Village, Hongyan, Longshan, Xiangxi

On March 29, the author accompanied the Hongyan Town rural tourism resource survey team to the river valley from Hongyan Town to Xiche Town for a survey, and discovered large numbers of the endangered and rare plant - Chinese mosquito-plague - along the riverbank in Yanxing Village, Hongyan Town. This discovery greatly excited the survey team members.
Chinese mosquito-plague is an evergreen shrub with dense branches and leaves, deep green foliage that does not wither through winter, and small red flowers in spring. Its bark is dark gray, rough, and deep green, and it often has insect galls.
The tree has strong branching ability, especially the extending shoots of the side branches, which grow vigorously and often make the crown irregular. Because the branches are flexible and tolerant of pruning, it is especially suitable for making bonsai in different forms such as straight-trunk style, curved-trunk style, slanted-trunk style, deadwood style, double-trunk style, cliff style, and waterside style.
Among plants that have grown for many years, those mosquito-plagues that are very short, uniquely shaped, with thick and sturdy root bases, short and curved old branches, exposed and twisting roots, and strange and ancient appearance are very precious. They are the most ideal material for cultivating bonsai and have extremely high ornamental value. It is precisely because of this characteristic that Chinese mosquito-plague bonsai has become one of the excellent traditional arts of the Chinese nation.
At present, the tree has been placed under key protection by the Hongyan Town government, and anyone is prohibited from digging it up for any reason.
