What Soil Is Best for Planting White Orchid Tree? A Full Guide to Soil Mixing

When choosing its potting soil, the most important thing is to ensure the soil is slightly acidic. If you are in the north, you can add ferrous sulfate to change the pH. Normally, you can mix a tiny amount of ferrous sulfate into the water when watering to maintain the soil's acidity. Repot it with fresh soil every 2 years, which lets the white orchid tree grow more robustly and vigorously.

1. What Soil to Use

Its roots are fleshy, so it needs soil with fairly good permeability. Also, it is a southern flower and prefers slightly acidic soil and water, so it is best to mix coarse sand and gravel, garden soil and rotted leaves. Pay attention to care in terms of water, fertilizer, light and temperature, and it will certainly grow very well. If you are in the north, where alkaline soil is more common, you can add some sulfur powder when mixing the soil to help increase its acidity.

2. Potting Soil Maintenance

If you are in the north, because the water is fairly alkaline, frequent use will make the soil alkaline, so it is best to use rainwater or add some ferrous sulfate to the water. However, since rainwater and snow are not easy to store, you can normally use tap water, and give it ferrous sulfate water at regular intervals about every ten days. This helps prevent it from getting chlorosis.

3. When to Change the Soil

Changing its soil, like pruning it, is done once every 2 years, and each time you change the soil you must use a pot a bit larger than before. You can do this in spring when it comes out of the shed. After disinfecting the new flower pot, lay some broken tiles at the bottom of the pot as a drainage layer, then spread about 3 cm of soil on top, place some horse-hoof slices as a base fertilizer, then spread another layer of soil. Take the tree out of its original pot, remove the dead and old roots, plant it in, press the soil firm, and then water it thoroughly.

Its sprouting ability is relatively low, so its branches are generally not pruned, but removing branches that have died or been attacked by pests and diseases is very necessary. After the flower buds form, moderately removing some leaves is also important, as this lets the flowers grow larger and bloom for a longer time.
