Reasons for Yellowing Leaves on Autumn Zephyr Lily (Zephyranthes candida) and Solutions

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
Its leaves turning yellow may be due to poor root respiration, so it should be taken out to check whether the roots have rotted. It may also be a normal phenomenon, because in summer its above-ground plants will dry up and die, and only come back to life in autumn. It could also be caused by too much watering, which requires controlling the water.

I. Poor Root Respiration

Although it likes moisture very much, it is actually more suited to soil culture. If its leaves turn yellow, it is very likely because the roots are not respiring properly. Check whether the roots have rotted: take it out, remove the rotted roots and leaves, apply some plant ash to the cut areas of the roots, then let it dry, and replant it in a flower pot. Keep the soil in the pot moist but not too dry, cover it with plastic film for one week, and after uncovering it, it can be cared for normally. Let it get plenty of sunlight and keep it warm so it can quickly grow new roots.

II. Normal Physiological Phenomenon

In summer, many of its above-ground plants will die off, and they will only grow back in autumn. In the hot season, when the daytime temperature is above 35°C, if it is placed directly in the sun, it will stop growing or enter semi-dormancy, and the leaves will also gradually turn yellow and fall off due to scorching. So in summer, shade it from half of the sunlight.

If it is placed indoors, try to put it in a bright area, such as a balcony with good light. After keeping it indoors for about two months, it should be moved outdoors to a shaded position for about one month, alternating back and forth this way. If it is winter, keep it warm.

III. Overwatering

If it is caused by too much watering, watering should be controlled, and the soil should be loosened appropriately, but not too forcefully, so as to help it drain and breathe and help its roots grow. If the soil turns white or has cracks, water it thoroughly. It is afraid of too strong light, and a semi-shaded area is best. Do not keep it indoors all the time either, as the leaves will also turn yellow. It can often be moved outdoors to get an hour or so of sun, preferably moved out in the morning.

IV. Precautions

Actually, it is very easy to grow. If its leaves wither but the roots have not died, you can cut off its leaves and place it in a cool place to let its leaves grow out, then gradually expose it to the sun. It performs better in soil culture. If it is hydroponic, its leaves will also easily turn yellow.
