When city families grow flowers, they often worry about soil. In fact, you only need to collect some sawdust from a wood processing plant or furniture factory to make your own very ideal flower-growing medium. Sawdust has good properties of looseness, aeration, water permeability and water retention, and it is also clean and hygienic, while its heat retention is also strong, which is especially beneficial to root growth. First put the collected sawdust in a plastic bag or bucket, add some water appropriately, seal it and let it compost and ferment for two months, then take it out, and put it under the blazing sun to expose it for 3~4 days. After disinfection, it can be used.

Sawdust can be used as a culture medium. When cultivating succulent plants, sawdust can be used. Adding a small amount of sawdust to the soil for growing plants can not only improve the soil structure, but also make the potting soil more loose and airy. Sawdust can also be used as a cutting medium. Because sawdust has strong water retention, it is very suitable for cutting plants, such as cutting roses, gardenias, and so on. The plants not only root quickly, but also grow sturdy branches and leaves. When transplanting, the plant and the sawdust can also be planted together in the flower pot, greatly reducing damage to the plant's root system.

Remember that freshly produced sawdust should not be used immediately to grow flowers; it must be used after rotting, otherwise it is easy to burn the roots. If you want to use sawdust as fertilizer, you need to treat the sawdust a little. Because only rotted sawdust can be used as fertilizer. Put the sawdust in a bucket or bag, pour a little water into it, then place it in a ventilated place, and after waiting one or two months it can be used.

For newly transplanted flowers and trees, especially flower seedlings sent by mail, because the mailing time is too long, the seedlings lose water severely and are wilting and about to die. At this time, if they are planted in nutrient soil with a relatively high fertilizer content, the seedlings will be burned to death; if planted in a pot with soil that has no fertilizer content, after watering the soil easily becomes compacted and impermeable to air, and the new seedlings will also suffocate to death. If sawdust is used to plant new seedlings, because sawdust is loose, airy, heat-retaining and moisture-retaining, after a period of time, new roots grow again from the old root parts of the dried-up root hairs of the new seedlings, bringing the seedlings back from the dead and restoring their vitality.

Using sawdust to cultivate orchids can replace orchid soil. When growing orchids in the north, the soil is often slightly alkaline, which makes the orchids grow poorly. Compared with orchids cultivated with leaf mold and sawdust, the latter cultivated orchids have larger pseudobulbs, fat and sturdy young shoots, and roots that are semi-transparent and creamy, without root rot, and they can bloom even with only two leaves, breaking the traditional view that they must have at least four leaves to bloom. After sawdust has been in the pot for a period of time, it will rot and provide enough nutrients for the orchids. At the same time, sawdust is suitable for fungal growth, making the orchid fungi symbiotic with orchid roots grow well, and the orchid roots can remain in the best condition for a long time.
